BMW X2 wins Best Production Vehicle in Detroit

The Detroit Auto Show opened its doors last week with enough debuts and concept cars to entertain the vast numbers of visitors. Two of those concept and production cars were also honored with EyesOn Design awards. The Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept and the BMW X2 SUV took home top honors in the two categories, respectively.

The X2 also took home the award for Vehicle Harmonization. Meanwhile, the Q2 Inspiration was also a two-time winner, taking home the Best Designed Interior award. The Nissan XMotion Concept was given an award for Innovation Use of Color, Graphics, or Materials, while the Ram 1500 won Best Designed User Experience.

Based on the same UKL architecture that underpins the BMW X1, the X2 is a front-wheel drive based BMW crossover that is available with xDrive all-wheel drive. In America, the only model available will be the BMW X2 xDrive28i. That means it will only be all-wheel drive ‘Stateside and it will only come with the brand’s 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s the same B48 engine as in the X1, so it makes the same 228 hp and uses the same eight-speed automatic gearbox.

At $39,395 ($995 destination charge included), the X2 xDrive28i is $2,500 more than the $36,895 sticker price of an X1 xDrive28i. This particular X2 model is also $9,200 cheaper than a comparable X4 with its $47,600 price tag.

There is also the $4,650 M SportX Package which brings the M design to the X2.

Pairing it with the $600 Dynamic Handling Package brings the price to $44,645.
