BMW X2 Tech Specs Revealed for Full Line-up as it Goes on Sale

March finally came around and it also brought the new BMW X2. Depending on the country you live in though, you might find that the line-up might be pretty limited. It’s the case in the US where only one engine is available, with two different choices when it comes to where the power is being sent. The xDrive28i and sDrive28i models are the most powerful in the range as well, but if you live in Europe, chances are you might fancy a diesel.

Even though there’s a seeming witch hunt happening right now aiming at compression-ignition engines, they are still favored by European customers for their efficiency and torque. In the X2 range customers can choose between 20d and 18d guises. The former has been announced a while back and we even put it to the test in Portugal earlier this year but the 18d specs have been missing up until now.

As is the case with all cars using this badge, the BMW X2 sDrive and xDrive18d models used a 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel mill making 150 HP and 350 Nm of torque. The power can then be sent to either the front wheels or all four of them. The sDrive model is available with both a manual 6-speed gearbox and an automatic 8-speed unit but it should be noted that the latter is not a ZF box but the traditional Aisin-sourced one used on UKL-built cars. No matter the choice, the acceleration figures are the same the car doing 100 kph from standstill in 9.3 seconds, with a top speed of 207 km/h. There’s no automatic choice available at the moment for the xDrive18d version which is also slightly faster than its FWD alternative at 9.2 seconds.

On the petrol side of things you can also choose between an sDrive18i and xDrive18i model. Both of them use a 4-cylinder 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine making 140 HP 220 Nm of torque. The sDrive model comes with either a manual 6-speed gearbox or an automatic 7-speed DCT unit and they are just as quick at 9.6 seconds to 100 km/h. Then there’s also the xDrive20i model coming with a similarly sized engine but good for 192 HP and 280 Nm of torque. It’s only available with an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox and it will do the benchmark sprint in 7.4 seconds.
